(2+ years PAE)
Your Career. Your Lifestyle. Your Future.
At Murdoch Clarke, we’ve been supporting Tasmanians for over 130 years. Our reputation is built on quality advice, trusted relationships, and a genuine commitment to our people.
We are now seeking a talented Commercial Lawyer to join our growing team. This is an opportunity to work on high-quality matters, develop your expertise, and enjoy a more balanced and rewarding way of working.
About the Role
Working closely with our Partners and senior practitioners, you will be exposed to a broad range of commercial matters, including:
- Business and corporate advisory
- Commercial transactions and structuring
- Property and development matters
- Contract drafting and negotiation
- General commercial advice to a diverse client base
You will have the opportunity to take ownership of files, build strong client relationships, and play a meaningful role in delivering practical, commercially focused outcomes.
About You
We are looking for a lawyer with approximately 2+ years’ PAE who:
- Has experience in commercial law (private practice preferred)
- Demonstrates strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability
- Communicates clearly and builds rapport with clients
- Is motivated, proactive, and keen to develop professionally
- Values collaboration and contributes positively to team culture
We also welcome applications from more senior practitioners who:
- Bring significant experience and a depth of knowledge across commercial matters
- Are passionate about mentoring and developing junior lawyers
- Enjoy leading matters and supporting the next generation of practitioners
- Contribute to the ongoing growth and capability of the broader team
Why Join Murdoch Clarke?

- Exposure to high-quality, diverse legal work
- A supportive and collaborative team culture
- Direct client engagement and meaningful responsibility
- Ongoing mentoring and career development opportunities
- Competitive salary package (commensurate with experience)
- 12 weeks paid parental leave, with superannuation paid during leave
- A strong focus on wellbeing, balance, and workplace culture
Lifestyle & Location
While this role offers strong career progression, it also provides something increasingly rare — balance.
Tasmania offers a lifestyle where professional success doesn’t come at the expense of personal time. With shorter commutes, access to nature, and a vibrant food and cultural scene, you’ll have the space to enjoy life outside of work while continuing to build your career.
